Inside Mumbai: Conversations with Ten Women,
by Lisa Elaine Sipes.
This is a book for women.  Well, a man may want to
read it too.  But, mostly it’s for women.  Do you
sometimes look at other cultures in America or in
India  and wonder what their lives are like?  What it is
that they do all day long?  What do they value in their
lives?  How do they worship?  Who are they?

What about Indian women in your neighborhood?
Your society?  Your co-workers? At the grocery store
or provision store, your household help, or even your
doctor or professor?  What do you know about the
culture they have come from and, most likely, still
identify with?

This book will connect you to India and the lives of
Indian women.  Whether you live in India or America,
step into their worlds…inside Mumbai.

Who is Sai Baba? Magazine by Tricia Wilson

“I will give people what they want in the hope that they will
begin to want what I want to give them.”
- Shirdi Sai Baba

Over a century ago, there lived a man who people
called Sai Baba. He lived in a small village named
Shirdi, in the Indian State of Maharashtra in “holy
poverty”—the life of a fakir. Before his death in 1918,
he had developed a large number of followers and the
reputation of being the “common man’s god.” He was
known as Sai Baba.

Eight years later, another man was born.....

“My power is immeasurable; my truth is inexplicable,
unfathomable.  I am announcing this about me, for the need
has arisen. But what I am doing now, is only the gift of a
‘visiting card’.”

- Sathya Sai Baba, Sathya Sai Speaks IX, 88.

Sathyanarayan Raju was born in 1926, in the village of
Puttaparthi, South India. From the time of his birth until
now, he has gathered a large number of followers,
and is believed by many to be God.

On the morning of May 23, 1940, he declared to his
family and the people of his village that he was the
incarnation of Sai Baba from Shirdi, who had died
eight years before. He is known as Sai Baba.

Who is Sai Baba?  This informative, photo-filled
magazine explores the lives of both men.  You decide.

Conversations with Ten
Women
Lisa Sipes lived in Mumbai
as a volunteer with ICES for
two years, living and
breathing the city's
fascinating diversity.  Her
goal was to uncover some of
the mystery of Mumbai's
cultures.  As she interviewed
the interesting variety of
women for the research and
this first "real" publication for
ICES, she found women of
confidence, strength...and
from worlds far different, yet
similar to her own.
Who is Sai Baba?
Living in Mumbai for two
years and working with ICES
gave Tricia Wilson the
opportunity to develop
relationships with a variety of
individuals in the city.  As she
met people and learned, she
became fascinated by their
religious persuasions, and in
particular with the "gurus" that
they were especially devoted
to.  One such guru was Sai
Baba, who she soon
discovered as she began her
research, was really TWO
men (and perhaps more).

ICES published the results of
her research in a single
magazine format,
characterizing both of the
guru's lives, their teachings,
quotes, interviews with
devotees and more.
